An interview with Eurogamer reveals the latest details about the ambitious role-playing game Warlock: Dungeons & Dragonsdeveloped by Invoke Studio under the leadership of industry veterans. The project promises to offer a new perspective on the famous universe, shifting the focus from turn-based tactics to dynamic action with a deep magic system.
Magic as the basis for play and exploration
The main feature of the combat system and interaction with the world will be the flexible use of spells. The author abandoned the mediocre principle of “dealing fixed damage” in favor of synergy and improvisation.
- Players will be able to combine abilities: for example, pull a lamp with a spell chain Tasha’s belt Throw it into the bushes to start a fire, or combine dark beams with water obstacles to create makeshift platforms.
- Magic will be directly involved in traveling around the world—blazing new paths, solving puzzles, and overcoming dangerous areas like miasma.
- In close combat, Kaatri will be able to combine a variety of weapons (from swords to warhammers), alternate attacks and cast spells on the fly directly from the game controller.
Dense open world instead of towers
The creators of the Darkon setting were inspired by the adventurous spirit of classic D&D and put player curiosity first. The game world is deliberately made more compact compared to a giant sandbox like this crimson desertto avoid cumbersome travel.
- New points of interest, dungeons, mines, and settlements appear every few minutes along the way.
- Developers no longer litter the map with problematic icons: players must explore territory on their own, relying on rumors, dialogue, and visual clues in the environment.
- The heroine’s constant companion will be the little demon Scaife, who not only helps in battles and knows how to pick locks, but also has his own storyline.
