Doom: Dark Ages development lead Hugo Martin recently conducted a broadcast on the official YouTube channel declare A new mode of the game – “Slaughter Mode”.

Carnage mode is a single-player mode where you must fight your way through increasingly difficult waves of random enemies and bosses in various arenas. The passage is divided into rounds and can continue indefinitely.

Since the mode is single-player, there are no leaderboards, but players will be able to track their best scores. Weekly challenges and cosmetic rewards have been announced.

It is understood that Carnage Mode will be released as a free update throughout November, but not for all “Doom: Dark Ages” players, but only for purchasers of the “Revelations” story add-on content.

Martin said Slaughter Mode is one of two current projects at id Software. The studio is also in the early stages of production on a new Doom game, according to The Verge senior editor Tom Warren.

Doom: Dark Ages releases on PC on May 15, 2025 (steam, microsoft store), PS5, Xbox Series X and S, and Game Pass. Xbox management made massive layoffs at id Software to celebrate the release of Revelations in July.
