In the final trailer for the animated film “Yoru to Ao” (a collaboration between Type-Moon and Ufotable), it was announced that Supercell and guest singer Yanaginagi (formerly Nagi) have collaborated again to create the film’s title song “Yoru to Ao” (“Night and Blue”). The reunion comes 15 years after Yanaginagi left Supercell and seven years after the group’s last release.

Supercell is a creative collective led by musician and composer Ryo. The main composition of the group consists of 11 members; except for Ryo, they are all artists and designers who create illustrations for album booklets and music videos.

The group’s leader Ryo posted a touching message to fans on the Note platform. He recalled the original 2012 visual novel “Mahoutsukai no Yoru”, for which the group composed the ending theme “Hoshi ga Matataku Konna Yoru ni”. At the time, Type-Moon was rapidly gaining popularity thanks to projects like Tsukihime and Fate/Stay Night, so Supercell members were excited about the chance to work on the studio’s then-new game.

I remember when I received the invitation and told the members via Skype, they were very surprised and asked, “Do you want to write a song for TYPE-MOON?” Mr. Nasu contacted me personally at that time. After completing the project, he even took me on vacation to soak in a hot spring. The memories this project left me with are not only because of the music itself, but also because of the experiences.

After 15 years, Ryo is delighted that the band is able to release a new song, its first since the release of the song “Love” (2019), which became the soundtrack to the animated film “Cencoroll”. The composition of the new song “Yoru to Ao” was completed at the end of July 2026: right up until the deadline, Ryo was still perfecting the details – from the lyrics to the guitar volume to the cymbal sound. It is in this process of continuous improvement, the musician says, that the “real meaning” of the orchestra’s revival lies.

“Magic Night” will premiere in Japanese theaters on November 20 and will be released globally starting in January 2027.
