As US export restrictions tightened last fall, Nvidia immediately began work on updated AI accelerator models for the Chinese market. The “green” chipmaker has prepared three new devices, the most productive of which is the H20. This model is several times weaker in terms of computing power than the full-fledged Nvidia H100, but can be freely supplied to China.
According to the latest information, Nvidia has already begun accepting orders for the H20 and expects to begin deliveries before the end of the current quarter. The computing accelerator costs Chinese customers 12-15 thousand dollars apiece. This price allows the H20 to effectively compete with other AI accelerators available on the Chinese market, such as the Huawei 910B, which costs around $16,000. Let’s add that for a full-fledged H100, buyers from China shelled out up to $70 thousand. Specifications of “anti-sanction” Nvidia accelerators are given in the table.
