Analytical firms Jon Peddie Research and Mercury Research shared information on the state of the processor market in the fourth quarter of 2023. The first company disclosed total sales of chips for personal computers, and the second provided data on the balance of power in individual segments of the x86 market.
According to Jon Peddie Research estimates, 66 million processors were shipped last quarter, which is 22% better than the same period in 2022. Of these, 70% are laptops, and 30% are desktop solutions. 60 million chips were equipped with integrated graphics, and in five years, analysts predict that iGPU will be part of 98% of all new PC processors.
As for the balance of power in the x86 market, the situation here has not changed much compared to the third quarter of last year. AMD strengthened its position in the desktop and mobile segments, but lost a little in the server segment. Interestingly, with deliveries of 23.1% of all x86 chips for servers, the “red” ones receive almost a third of total revenue.
