In December, CableMod launched a recall campaign for its 12VHPWR right-angle power adapters. The manufacturer has acknowledged the imperfection of the design of such adapters and will offer customers a full refund. A page has appeared on the website of the US Consumer Product Safety Commission that reveals additional details of the CableMod recall campaign.
In total, CableMod received 272 complaints about loose, overheating and melting graphics card power connectors, and the total amount of damage caused to their owners was at least $74.5 thousand. The vendor offers to refund the full cost of the adapter, including shipping costs, or provide $60 for purchases in the company’s online store. The recall affects all 12VHPWR adapters sold between February and December 2023.
It is worth adding that some manufacturers, in particular MSI, consider the use of alternative 12VHPWR adapters to be a reason to void the warranty on the video card. Taking this into account, the best option would be to use PCI-E Power adapters, which are included with the 3D accelerator, or the corresponding power supply cable.
