What are the rules of the Baldur’s Gate 3 Cat Playthrough?
The rules of this strange experiment were simple:
Everything must be completed in cat-like form. If the character loses the animal form (e.g. due to damage), you have to transform straight back into a cat. If the normal form is temporarily imposed through a cutscene, that’s okay.

This is how the passage of Baldur’s Gate 3 goes as a cat
Overall, Youtuber Proxy Gate Tactician encountered two obstacles. First, with a cat it is extremely difficult to cause any harm at first. After all, druids up to level 6 are only allowed to transform into simple house cats. However, you can use these to sneak past or attack opponents in a coordinated manner (previously attracted by a meow) and eliminate them with “Death by a Thousand Scratches”.
Or you can take advantage of the environment – for example, drop an alchemist’s fire by moving boxes and then let enemies die from explosives or fall damage. With the activation of the panther and saber-toothed cat, fights will no longer be a problem later on.
Can you play through Baldur’s Gate 3 as a cat?
Secondly Cats are unable to do this with everything in Baldur’s Gate 3 to interact. And that was the big sticking point of the 40-hour experiment. Areas and doors could always be avoided using glitches (climbing over walls with boxes), tricks and imaginative jumping maneuvers. But at the latest when the area was transferred from Act 2 to Act 3, it was finally over: it is literally impossible to activate the transition to the last act in cat form. Even speedrunner tricks couldn’t help.
Source: buffed The heroic cutscene between Act 2 and Act 3 is only available if you leave the cat form first – at this point the Cat Challenge from Baldur’s Gate 3 fails. Nevertheless, it is of course a fun experiment that also tests the ingenuity of players highlights. For example, Shadowheart can effortlessly traverse the Shadowlands in Act 2 as a cat, but at some point you will have to manually throw the magical torch to protect you from environmental effects.
