MMORE 03/2024 is back with lots of exciting topics about World of Warcraft and many other MMORPGs. As always, we start the journey through our magazine in a rather informative way with great guides in which we shed light on the return of the tier set bonuses in Season 4 and look at what makes the “Archives of Azeroth” so special. Afterwards, we’ll broaden our perspective a bit and look at the history of Blizzard, how the small company with a dream became a forge for dream games.

Our message from the editorial team: Not everything is gold,
what glitters
When Microsoft announced some time ago that it wanted to take over Activision Blizzard, opinions among the gaming community were divided. While some saw this as a great opportunity for a clean restart, others were concerned that Blizzard was just swapping one dependency for another. We now know at least one thing: Microsoft is not being squeamish. Just weeks after the takeover, Blizzard lost its president Mike Ybarra, the last founder Allen Adham also left the company and various departments were shrunk or outsourced entirely. The first projects have already been thrown out the window. Blizzard’s survival game was the first victim and was canceled without replacement. If things continue at this rate, Blizzard will be almost unrecognizable in a few months. So it’s fitting that you’ll find the first part of our big Blizzard story (from page 48) in the current issue. Where does the company come from and how has it developed over the many years from a factory for dream games to a “games as a service” machine?
The future is golden
What Bobby Kotick couldn’t do, Microsoft won’t be able to do either. WoW will continue to march inexorably into the future. But what does this look like in the case of Classic? There is wild debate in the forums about whether Cata is the right move or whether Classic should end with Wrath of the Lich King. We are of course discussing this (from page 60). The future of TESO, however, has been clarified. From page 84 we tell you what the Gold Road and the future in Tamriel are all about. Things continue to be golden in Final Fantasy 14 too. The Fan Fest in Tokyo has been throwing around new announcements for 2024 and we have caught everything and prepared it for you from page 88. And if you don’t feel like playing MMOs at the moment and have acquired a taste for large solo role-playing games through Baldur’s Gate 3, we have Warhammer 40k: Rogue Trader in the test (from page 72) – similar game system, but completely different setting. If you want to rejoice with us, please send us feedback or suggestions to [email protected] or [email protected]!
