The billionaire plans to “give up his phone number” in the next few months – instead relying solely on calls and texts on X.
“In a few months, I will stop using my phone number and will only use X for text messages and audio/video calls,” Musk wrote.
It seems that Elon, by his own example, is trying to attract more people to sign up for an X Premium subscription for $8 per month: since all users can receive calls, but only premium ones can make calls.

The audio and video calling option was activated on the platform in October.
As Gizmodo notes, giving up your phone number also seems dubious from a security perspective. We are talking in particular about SMS verification codes, which are used for two-factor authentication. X offers this option, as do many other social networks – again for paid users. Others can use authentication programs or security keys.
