There were rumors that a new version of the OS would be released instead.
At the end of 2024, Microsoft intends to release a major update for Windows 11, 24H2. The update is mentioned in the announcement of a new test version of the OS: Windows 11 Insider Preview build 26052.
For some time there were rumors that a new version of the OS, Windows 12, could be released at the end of 2024. It was assumed that the new operating system would be released instead of a major update for Windows 11.
Having formally announced the 24H2 update for Windows 11, Microsoft did not talk in detail about the contents of the update. It is expected that the OS will receive an advanced version of the Windows Shell.
In particular, it is allegedly planned to integrate the Copilot AI assistant, already present in Windows 11, into the new version of the shell. The neural network will supposedly be able to simplify the search for data on a PC and make it easier to work with applications.
Microsoft’s blog does not say when exactly the 24H2 update for Windows 11 will be released.
