Before its release, many were betting that Enshrouded would suffer from its similarity to Palworld. But today, opinions have changed.
Enshrouded was released on January 24, 2024. The title was expected, but many were afraid that it would go a little unnoticed in the shadow of the Palworld juggernaut. The two games have similarities, particularly in the survival part, but in the end, the baby from Keen Games still achieved very good scores. Better still, some players find that it is a step ahead on various points compared to its direct competitor from Pocket Pair.
A focus on storytelling and world coherence
Palworld is an undeniable success, the game having a lot of qualities, but anyone who has played it knows that for the moment, the story is sorely lacking in development and narration. For its part, Enshrouded breaks away from its “classic” survival game image and offers an immersive experience fueled by a deep and compelling narrative. Thanks to journal pages and ancient obelisks scattered throughout the world of Embervale, the story is revealed little by little until it takes a step up during the last part of your adventure. In this adventure, the player embodies the Flameborn, humanity’s last hope who can resist the different layers of fog and corruption known as “the shroud”. It must be said that it is an evil released following the exploitation of the earth by your character’s ancestors while they were looking for a magical elixir. So it’s up to you to save this ruined kingdom. Even if Palworld remains a very satisfying experience, a good storyline could only make it better.
A particularity that does not please everyone
You will have understood, the story of Enshrouded is one of its great qualities since it satisfies the players. However, a particularity prevents them from fully enjoying the experience. Once in the world of Embervale, you can complete quests, except that their progress is linked to the server and not to individual players. In other words, if one of your friends is not available to complete a quest, once completed, they will no longer be able to do it on their own. To justify this choice, the developers explained “that they imagined the game as a completely cooperative experience so that everyone helps the group progress. Obviously, Keen Games listens to the Enshrouded community and will ensure that everyone is informed of the progress of the missions to allow them to repeat them more easily.
