Come along on February 29th Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth the second part of the remake trilogy onto the market. Accordingly, you can already find a detailed preview of the role-playing game that will appear on the PS5 on our website. But what about further new editions from Square Enix?
For example, you could get Final Fantasy 8 out of the mothballs again. Naoki Hamaguchi, the director of the current remake, was recently confronted with exactly such a scenario. Hamaguchi personally would probably not be too enthusiastic about such plans.
No remake of FF8?
“After we played the three games in the [FF7]trilogy and Mr. Kitase comes up to me and says ‘we’re doing another remake of a numbered Final Fantasy and you’re on board’, I just turn around and say ‘no!'”
These are the words of Hamaguchi in a recent interview with IGN. It wasn’t just the director of the remake trilogy who was interviewed. Yoshinori Kitase, the director of Final Fantasy 8, was also involved. Of course, he also had some thoughts about a potential return of the eighth part.
“Trying to recreate the amount of content found in RPGs of the time in the modern era is not something to be taken lightly,” said Kitase. “It takes so much time and effort that you really have to think about taking on a project like this.”

According to what was said in the conversation, the combat system in particular needs to be tinkered with. Neither of them seems really enthusiastic about such an undertaking. In particular, the fact that three modern role-playing games are being built from the Playstation classic supports Kitase’s acceptance. Initially, however, the focus of the fan base will probably be on the release of Rebirth.
