In case you didn’t know, we are going to start having cameras capable of controlling abusive parking in large Portuguese cities, such as Lisbon and Porto. In fact, the first systems have already started to be installed in Porto, in at least two Municipal Police vehicles.
In other words, in addition to the fact that they are cameras capable of understanding whether a transgression is taking place, they are also mobile, as they are attached to a patrol car.
Mobile cameras will automatically fine you in Portugal!
Example of a poorly parked car ready to be fined under the new system.
Therefore, the installation is taking place in February, so that the system will be “online” in March.
However, don’t be fooled, these cameras only serve to control abusive or improper parking in large cities.
After all, these systems are not (yet) capable of catching other types of crimes such as smartphone use, or speeding at the location of “photography” or “filming”.
How does it all work?
Well, it’s like a mobile or fixed radar in reality! Which basically means that everything is processed automatically or semi-automatically, with the fine arriving at the driver’s home after a few weeks, or months, as has been normal until now.
Still, they can send the message that there is a pursuit, which seems to be bothering some drivers. Which raises a question… Do you agree with using this type of system? Do you think it will have the desired effect? Or is it too much control? Share your opinion with us in the comments box below.
