Despite its now “advanced” age, the Switch is still one of the world’s most popular game consoles, which is not least due to Nintendo’s in-house game catalog. However, rumors have been increasing online for some time now that we will soon have the successor, previously known as Switch 2. It is also said to be able to play Nintendo Switch titles.
What Microsoft can do with the Xbox, Nintendo has apparently been able to do with the Switch 2 for a long time. As our colleagues at Eurogamer report, the Switch successor appears to be able to play Nintendo Switch games in addition to new titles. In addition, they shouldn’t just work easily, the “classic” Switch games should also benefit from the new hardware, look better and generally run more smoothly – as long as the respective developers provide appropriate patches or updates.
This would mean Nintendo following in the same footsteps as Microsoft and Sony, which offer the same mechanics for games from previous console generations for the Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. However, it is currently unknown when the new Nintendo console can be expected.
