In the last few days, rumors have emerged that Microsoft will soon be offering major exclusive titles on other consoles such as the Nintendo Switch and Sony’s Playstation 5. This in turn fueled fears that the company no longer expected the Xbox consoles to be successful and might even discontinue them. But now there are further details that contradict this concern.
New strategy, but with Xbox
According to a report from video game editor Shannon Liao, Xbox boss Phil Spencer held an internal company meeting on Tuesday where he emphasized that there are no plans to end Xbox consoles. The Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X will continue to be produced in the future, and the development of successor models will probably continue.
“The company held an internal Tuesday townhall where Spencer told employees that there were no plans to stop making consoles, and that Xboxes would continue to be part of a strategy that involves multiple kinds of devices.”
“The company held an internal meeting on Tuesday where Spencer told employees that there were no plans to stop making consoles and that the Xbox remains part of a strategy that includes multiple types of devices.”
At the same time, Spencer is also said to have confirmed that the company’s strategy is aimed at “multiple types of devices.” Depending on your interpretation, this could be understood as a reference to competing products from Nintendo and Sony. Big titles like Starfield may actually soon be released for the Playstation 5 in order to bring more money into Microsoft’s coffers.

However, none of this is certain due to the lack of official statements. Last Monday, Spencer announced that there would be an update from Microsoft next week. In the coming days, the company will probably explain what the rumors are and what the future of the Xbox division should look like.
