The soaring is followed by the crash: After the Pokémon clone Palworld broke one new record after another in terms of player numbers on Steam at the beginning of the year, things are now going steeply downhill. According to the SteamDB database, “only” around 750,000 players were still active in Palworld yesterday, Saturday. This means that the open world title has lost around two thirds of its player base within two weeks. In absolute numbers, the drop of around 1.4 million players within a 14-day period is said to be the largest decline of a Steam game ever, as the PCGamesN portal reports.

This trend was already apparent. A little over two weeks ago, more than two million players were playing the game from the developer studio Pocketpair at the same time; But last weekend the number of players fell to a comparatively modest 1.3 million simultaneous players. According to the SteamDB charts, the current 24-hour peak is still enough for a strong second place on the list of currently most played games; only Counter-Strike 2 can boast even better numbers.
Despite the significant decline, these values are still considerable for an early access title – especially since only players on Steam are counted here. There will certainly be a few more Palworld players via Microsoft’s PC and Xbox Game Pass, although they may occasionally have to struggle with problems due to the Xbox architecture.
