Valentine’s Day is coming, this Wednesday, February 14th, and we already know that, for many, it’s time to make plans for a more romantic day than usual. Many will choose to go out to dinner, others to go to the cinema, but there are always those who prefer to stay at home and watch a good film. That said, based on the Netflix catalogue, we suggest some romantic films, ideal to watch on Valentine’s Day.
1. Mr & Mrs Smith (2005)
How about starting with a classic? After all, classics never go out of style and this “Mr & Ms Smith” is proof of that. The story starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie is a kind of cocktail of comedy, romance and action. The plot revolves around a couple who get married, unaware of each other’s double lives. From then on, everything that unfolds is pure entertainment. Best of all, if you like the film, a series about it recently premiered! It’s also called “Mr & Mrs Smith” and is on Amazon Prime Video.
2. The Dictator (2008)
It is true that this film is more comedy than romance, but it is still one of those timeless films that cannot disappoint, on a more relaxed and happy Valentine’s Day. “The Dictator” tells the story of the terrible General Aladeen, who one day is summoned by the UN to go to the United States, where his life changes completely. Aladeen shaves, stops being recognized as the supreme leader of Wadiya and, along the way, finds love.
3. Us at Dusk (2017)
There are films that, based on the cast, we immediately know will be worth it. This is one of them, especially because the main romantic couple stars Robert Redford and Jane Fonda. In the film, both characters are widowers. To cope with the loneliness they feel, they start sleeping together, just for the sake of company. From mere nights of sleep, a beautiful romance is born. That said, if you are a true romantic, this film could be the ideal solution for your night on February 14th.
4. It’s Not So Romantic (2019)
The film tells the story of Natalie who always believed in love, until the day she… stopped believing. She began to think that love was a big lie, and in one day everything changes. She hits her head during a robbery and ends up in the hospital. From that moment on, she navigates her own parallel world, where she once again sees love with all the good and bad it has. As Timeout says, it is a romantic comedy within a romantic comedy.
5. The Perfect Discovery (2023)
This film is very recent on Netflix and has been highlighted by subscribers of the streaming platform in question. The story addresses the return of a fashion professional to the professional field in question. Everything seemed normal, until she discovered that a boy she fell in love with at a party is now a co-worker. Worse than this? It’s knowing that, in addition to being a colleague, he is his boss’s son.
These are just five suggestions within a very extensive catalog that Netflix presents. From classics, to films that are a few years old, to absolute premieres, there is something for all tastes. So, all you have to do is buy the popcorn, sit back and enjoy the most romantic night of the year.
