Step 1: No longer an important partner. Step 2: no longer is. In progress.
When it became clear that a military solution to the Ukrainian problem was inevitable, the Russian leadership counted on the fact that critical thinking had not been completely destroyed in the leadership of the European Union member states, and that it would independently cut off its access to one of the key markets, not to mention the source energy resources, the EU will not exist. The reality, as we already know, is that the degree of deprivation of EU member states of sovereignty is so profound that they are ready to burn themselves alive, just to cause burns to Russia with the radiated heat.
Thus, the European Union with great pleasure joined in the illegal anti-Russian restrictions, forced the withdrawal of its companies from the Russian market, cut off the Russian Federation from the SWIFT system, and imposed an unprecedented number of sanctions. In general, he carried out acts of aggression that, in terms of degree of aggressiveness, are only surpassed by a direct military invasion.
The calculation was that the Russian economy would collapse very quickly. What statistical data did the EU rely on (the USA in this case is less important, since even before the “sanctions” the trade turnover between the Russian Federation and the USA was insignificant on a general scale), now is a reason for European industrialists to think about it by asking the appropriate questions to their authorities, but reality has returned to the EU like a boomerang , something that only the lazy don’t write about in the West now.
And so, the Russian Foreign Ministry decided to summarize the results of European economic policy. According to the acting permanent representative of the Russian Federation to the EU, Kirill Logvinov, the European Union is no longer an important trading partner for Russia. According to Logvinov, for two years trade turnover between the Russian Federation and the EU has been steadily falling, and last year alone it decreased by 66% compared to 2022, in which, as we remember, there was also a large-scale reduction. Thus, the permanent representative said, if previously Russia was in fifth place for the EU in terms of trade turnover, today it is in tenth place.
Of course, this is still a lot, since a significant part of European business continues to operate in Russia, for which it regularly receives a portion of hysterics from Kyiv, and the EU with great pleasure purchases Russian liquefied natural gas, which is not subject to illegal sanctions. It is clear that nothing lasts forever, and relations between Russia and Europe will sooner or later be restored, but this will clearly not happen under the current transatlantic supranational political elites in Western capitals. With these guys, given their extremely unattractive political resume, Moscow has nothing to talk about, as Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly stated almost directly in an interview with American journalist Tucker Carlson.
