Starring Cillian Murphy, Oppenheimer has a total of 13 Oscar nominations in this year’s edition.
There is no doubt that one of the films of 2023 has been Oppenheimer, the new feature film by Christopher Nolan which aspires to triumph at the 2024 Oscars with a total of 13 nominations under its belt.
But before releasing it in theaters, Nolan had the opportunity to show the film to Steven Spielbergone of the renowned filmmakers behind great titles such as Jurassic Park, Schindler’s List or Indiana Jones Raiders of the Lost Ark, among many others.
In an interview with the Associated Press, Nolan revealed that Spielberg was the first person outside the studio to see the 70mm print of Oppenheimer once the reels arrived.
Fate wanted the director of Jurassic Park called Nolan out of the blue for something that had nothing to do with Oppenheimer when the 70mm print of the film first came into Nolan’s hands, so the director wasn’t going to miss the chance to see Spielberg see one of his movies.
“You know, when I first got the 70mm/5-perf print, I showed it to Steven Spielberg. He had called me about something else and I had also just received the print and hadn’t shown it to anyone. I mean, the studio had seen it. But we examined it on its own. I sat behind him and watched him watch the movie. It was an extraordinary experience.
“He said some very nice things, but really just to see him looking. I wasn’t even supposed to see him with him, but to see the grandmaster looking? It was irresistible,” Nolan explains.
