This is the end of more than 5 years of history. This famous game developed by the French will receive a final update.
It’s a page that is turning, but another one that will begin soon. Dead Cells will soon receive its last and final update. Named “The End is Near” it will therefore be the 35th for the software and should bring three weapons, three mutations, three enemies and a whole bunch of other upgrades. The announcement was made on the title’s Steam page on Friday February 9, 2024.
Dead Cells is a game developed by Motion Twin, a studio from Bordeaux, which has since been entrusted to Evil Empire, a studio created by former Motion Twin employees, for its commercial exploitation. In this roguelite released on August 6, 2018 and rated extremely positively, you control a character who, after being decapitated, came back to life thanks to a strange parasite which infests him. After a medical experiment which turned into a tragedy and led by the king, the entire population was transformed into monsters. Your character will try by all means to find and eliminate the ruler of the kingdom. You will therefore have to explore a sprawling castle in perpetual motion to complete your mission.
“Dead Cells Update 35 marks the end of our creative journey on the game”
“Dead Cells Update 35 marks the end of our creative journey with the game. After an incredible 5-year collaboration to bring additional content to Dead Cells, Evil Empire will continue new adventures and we can’t wait to see what happens next. that they have in store for us” declared the studio on the Valve platform. A decision that was considered at length by the studio, particularly after the success of the latest Return to Castlevania DLC. During its years of existence, the software had also received 3 other additional downloadable content (including one free).
The game will still receive technical support
“Our commitment to avoiding the trap of ‘more of the same’ and keeping Dead Cells fresh and original has led us to this point. As we’ve seen with other long-term series, it’s crucial not to overextend or risk diminishing the unique charm that makes Dead Cells a special game for each of us. regarding their choice to stop feeding the content title. Motion Twin still reassures by specifying that the game will continue to receive support notably to ensure that all quality of life issues and bugs are properly fixed on all platforms.
This announcement therefore puts an end to the partnership between Motion Twin and Evil Empire, but not to the Dead Cells universe, since derivative projects will continue to be developed. For example, there is the first season of the animated series Dead Cells due out this year. The studio also keeps one foot in video games since it is in full development of Windblown which should also be released this year.
