Necrolipe (alias Felipe Lima, founder of the Brazilian site Universo Nintendo) confirms what Nate The Hate declared in recent days: apparently the new Nintendo console will be backwards compatible with Switch games in physical and digital format.
Apparently, in fact, the Nintendo Switch 2 development kits would allow access to the entire library of Switch games, allowing developers to test possible solutions and technical improvements to play their “old” games on the new hardware.
Felipe then reveals that backwards compatibility should not be limited to digital games onlyi but also to those in physical formattherefore suggesting that Nintendo Switch 2 will continue to use the same supports as the current console.
At least, this is what emerges from the dev-kitsNintendo could maintain this option, as well as completely remove it in consoles intended for sale, at the moment the plans of the Kyoto house in this regard are not known and although the sources are reliable, we remain in the field of rumors.
The Reuters news agency reports that Nintendo Switch 2 will be equipped with NVIDIA hardware and will be released by the end of 2024. According to other rumors, the presentation of Switch 2 would be imminent and expected for the month of March while the February Direct will be dedicated to third-party games coming out on Switch in the first half of the year.
