Being a gateway for many JRPG gamers to get to know what Persona is, fall in love with it, and ultimately remain fans to this day, Persona 3’s position in the gaming industry cannot be underestimated. This game, which was first available on Playstation 2 around 16 years ago, has really opened the eyes of many gamers regarding the charm of this game created by ATLUS. That you are not only caught up in the action of saving the world, you also have to live your daily life as a school student and part of society who has his own role. What’s more interesting? It also incorporated a super dark story which was quite rare at that time, especially with themes that other JRPG games didn’t seem to dare touch. Persona 3 has always been a special product.
Therefore, despite the extraordinary thirst and dream of finally seeing the name “Persona 6” flying from the hands of Atlus, not many gamers minded when their next project turned out to be a remake of Persona 3 itself. For veteran gamers, this means the opportunity to dive into the legendary series from a more modern perspective, which Atlus also promises is not just limited to presentation issues. Veteran gamers also seem to understand that the true charm of Persona 3 should also be enjoyed by young gamers who at that time were too young to experience the complexity of Persona 3’s story and gameplay, which is not easy. It’s not surprising that anticipation for the project which ended up being called Persona 3 Reload was high.
So, what does Persona 3 Reload actually offer? Why do we call it a classy re-enchantment from Atlus? This review will discuss it in more depth for you.
Plot
You play a new student at Gekkoukan High School.
In terms of story, Persona 3 Reload does not offer a new story line compared to what was injected in the original Persona 3 around 16 years ago.
Still set in 2009, you play as the main character – a high school student who has just transferred to a school called Gekkoukan High School, which is located on Tatsumi Port Island, an artificial island created by a giant company called Kirijo Corporation. Trying to find the hostel where you live actually opens your eyes to a scary and mysterious phenomenon at the same time. For whatever reason, the change of day apparently made Tatsumi Port Island “fall” into a confusing condition. Almost everyone who leaves the house at that point will turn into a static coffin and monsters called Shadows will appear. At one point in the city, there stands a super tall tower that appeared out of nowhere called Tartarus.
Midnight, coffins, and a chilling atmosphere? What an “interesting” response. With a gun-shaped evoker, you and your dorm mates can summon an entity called Persona that is capable of destroying monsters called Shadows.
In the midst of this situation, along with urgent conditions, the main character discovers the fact that he is able to summon an entity called a Persona by using an Evoker in the form of a firearm. Persona apparently has the ability to subdue and defeat the Shadows. What’s crazy again? It turns out he wasn’t alone. All friends who happen to live in the same dormitory also have the same abilities. They have even built their own organization – SEES as a foundation to no longer just subdue Shadow, but also the ambition to “turn off” the Dark Hour. That’s right, the Dark Hour is a mysterious time that occurs between the changes of day, where unconscious humans turn into coffins and Shadows roam. The key to destroying this phenomenon is believed to lie within the towers of Tartarus.
What does this Tartarus really have in store?
So, what kind of challenges must the main character face? Which friends are joining the struggle? Can he subdue Tartarus? Who is actually responsible behind the presence of the Shadows? You’ll of course have to play Persona 3 Reload to get the answers to these questions.
