As you may have already noticed, all electronic device manufacturers have different ways of separating their products by price range. In the case of Samsung and its smartphones, we have three main product ranges, Galaxy S, Galaxy A and Galaxy Z.
More concretely, while the range Galaxy Z separates itself from all the others because it is something solely focused on foldable devices, we have to look at the ranges Galaxy S e Galaxy A as the main ones, as this is where the vast majority of sales that Samsung makes year after year are concentrated. Let’s go in parts!
Samsung Galaxy S or Galaxy A: What changes!?
Gama Galaxy S24
First of all, it is necessary to take into account that despite the fact that the design philosophy is nowadays extremely similar between the two Galaxy S and Galaxy A ranges, the reality is that the first is entirely focused on high-end devices, this while the second is more focused on the mid-range.
However, the letters S and A also have a meaning, with the S in Galaxy S meaning “Super Smart”, while the A in Galaxy A means “Alpha”.
There were other ranges such as Galaxy Y (Young), C (China), M (Magic) and J (Joy), however, due to the confusion that all these ranges brought to the table, Samsung decided to simplify its range of products with the aforementioned Galaxy S, A and Z. (At least in the European market).
What changes between S and A?
Typically, the latest and most powerful technologies appear first on ‘S’ devices and then on ‘A’ devices.
Furthermore, it is normal to find better materials, as well as higher construction quality and finishes in devices designed for the high end. (Here we can include water and dust resistance, which on some Galaxy A devices may not even exist).
As is also obvious, it is in the Galaxy S range that we find the most powerful processors, the most advanced memory chips, etc… In turn, the Galaxy A uses slightly cheaper chips, but still capable of offering high levels of performance. (The focus of the Galaxy A range is Quality/Price).
Here it is also worth noting that in addition to implementing the same design philosophy across the entire range of Galaxy S and Galaxy A devices, Samsung is also making an effort to improve the build quality of its cheaper devices.
In fact, this should be one of the South Korean giant’s biggest highlights when it comes time to launch the new Galaxy A55 and A35, the kings of the mid-range for 2024.
The updates are not the same either!
If software support is important to you, it is worth mentioning that Galaxy S devices have more updates, and will also receive these same updates for longer.
It is also worth noting that the latest and most advanced features always arrive on the Galaxy S first. That is if they ever reach the Galaxy A. A very recent example is AI, which will reach all Galaxy S23s in 2023.
Use: Everything we said about the Galaxy S and Galaxy A ranges is also true for Samsung tablets.
