One of the most beloved sagas of recent years has undoubtedly been Harry Potter. The film franchise arising from the books written by JK Rowling has received a brutal reception since its premiere back in 2001. In fact, the success of Hogwarts Legacy cannot be understood in any other way than through the productions of Warner Bros. .
One of the most important directors in the history of cinema, Steven Spielberg, was very close to being in charge of direct the film project, but it didn’t really happen. During an interview with the director of RRR, Spielberg assured that directing films entails a family conflict, since he often has to travel from Los Angeles to another city for a long time:
“Kate [Capshaw] and I started to form a family and have children. The decision I had to make was to accept a job that would take me to another country for four or five months in which I would not see my family every day. “It was a heartbreaking experience.”
With these kinds of experiences in mind, Spielberg was very reluctant to accept films that would require him to change cities and separate from his family. Harry Potter was one of them, since most of the sequences were filmed in London. This is how the director explains the decision he made:
“There were several films that I decided not to do. I decided to reject the first installment of Harry Potter to spend the next year and a half with my family, with my children growing up. So I sacrificed a great franchise, which I am very happy about today, to be with my family”.
His role ended up being assumed by Chris Columbus, who directed Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, while Spielberg shaped AI Artificial Intelligence. The peculiarity of the film starring Haley Joel Osment and Jude Law is that it was recorded in Los Angeles, so everything was easier for the filmmaker.
