The Hong Kong company Minisforum continues to expand its range of motherboards with soldered processors. Another new product is the BD790i Mini-ITX model, equipped with a Ryzen 9 7945HX chip (Dragon Range). This is one of the top AMD Zen 4 “stones” for laptops.
The AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX is a close relative of the desktop Ryzen 9 7950X. It also offers 16 cores/32 threads, but has a BGA design, lower frequencies (from 2.5 to 5.4 GHz) and a TDP level of 55 W. Among other things, it is worth noting 64 MB of third-level cache, integrated Radeon 610M graphics, PCI Express 5.0 controller and support for DDR5-5200 RAM.
The equipment of the Minisforum BD790i motherboard includes two slots for SO-DIMM DDR5 RAM modules, a PCI Express 5.0 x16 expansion slot and a pair of M.2 connectors for NVMe drives with PCI-E 5.0 support. Network capabilities are represented by 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet, there is an M.2 2230 Key E slot for a wireless module. The new product also boasts a pre-installed cooling system, although a 120 mm fan will have to be purchased separately.
