That’s “almost half the price of the game,” players complain about Diablo 4. The reason for the excitement is cosmetics from the in-game shop, which you can use to color portals. Blizzard wants $30 for it and then taxes are added. This caused some tempers to boil over, especially since Diablo 4 had already attracted attention for some “mathematically shoddy” microtransactions.
On the Diablo 4 subreddit, user Mwatki20 sparked the discussion by posting an image of the Dark Pathways pack, which offers city portals in orange, green, purple, yellow and blue as well as 1,000 platinum for a considerable sum. “20 [sic] Dollars for different colored portals? LMFAO Blizz!” he or she writes. There are even 30 of them, we suspect a typo, and on top of that the offer is also tied to the class.
Some people suspect there is a strategy behind it: If you have something on offer at an outrageous price, $10 or $15 for something else seems almost cheap. Another user says: “You can get Palworld for this price…just saying…” As some other players point out, changing the portal color is purely cosmetic and has no impact on gameplay.
In the end, it’s probably the frequency with which Diablo 4 players have to be annoyed by bad news. Season 3 wasn’t particularly well received by some people. In between, Blizzard checked what players would pay for an expansion and offered a range of up to $100. And the Lunar Awakening Event also caused a revolt. “I’m done with it. I’m done with Blizzard,” one commented on the status of Diablo 4. The mix of microtransactions, season and battle passes as well as full-price games and potential add-ons seems to go a little too far for some.
The game will definitely go into Season 4 and there were also positive comments. For example after patch 1.3.0a, which put Season 3 on track. However, you have to be patient, as this isn’t the first “emergency patch”, and you shouldn’t let the in-game shop upset you too much.
