Among the exclusives PlayStation 5 most promising of 2024, Rise of the Ronin releases on March 22, 2024 worldwide, ready to delight Action/RPG fans with a long adventure full of surprises. But apparently the South Korean players will be the only ones who won’t enjoy the latest effort Team Ninja.
Rise of the Ronin in fact, it will not be published in South Korea. Team Ninja, Cow Tecmo e Sony Interactive Entertainment have not provided a clear and detailed explanation on the reasons behind this choice, although we are starting to hypothesize that behind the failure to release Rise of the Ronin on South Korean soil there may be a recent controversy that would involve Fumihiko Yasudaproducer and director of the game.
As reported by the Korean newspaper Daumin a recent video diary of Rise of the Ronin the author of the Action/RPG exalted the figure of Yoshida Shoin, a 19th-century scholar who contributed to the birth of modern Japan, describing him as “a figure comparable to Socrates for the Japanese, I wanted to represent his words, his teachings and his way of life in Rise of the Ronin”. Yoshida Shoin was however a strong advocate of Jeonghan’s theorythe idea behind Japan’s expansion through the forceful occupation of neighboring countries, including Korea, all to bring about an opening towards the Western world considered inevitable by the scholar.
Having highlighted this figure during the promotion of Rise of the Ronin, reports Daum, has therefore made numerous South Korean players turn up their noses, annoyed by the glorification of a similar ideology within the game. This could therefore have led to the decision not to publish the Action/RPG in South Korea, although this is an unconfirmed hypothesis. For the rest of the world, however, the appointment with Rise of the Ronin remains set for March 22nd.
