The misguided criticism that Stephen King made more than 20 years ago when he had to review a film called Tarantino’s Kill Bill.
We all know that Stephen King is one of the best creators of short novels and horror novels of all time, and yet many of his writings have been adapted to both the small and big screen.
The legacy that Stephen King has left during all these decades even earned him to be a critic of certain specialized film media.
And when it was time for Stephen King to review the first Kill Bill by Quentin Tarantinoit seems that he didn’t like it at all, unlike Clint Eastwood’s Mystic River.
In fact, when it was his turn to talk about Kill Bill, he labeled it “a boring movie,” and even criticized those specialists who had given the film a high rating, pointing out that “movie critics watch movies for free.”
He claims that Kill Bill “is not a benchmark in horror” like Mars Attack, it is simply “boring and full of itself.”
Of course, he praises the great work of Uma Thurman, but in the end he points out that “she is trapped playing a woman who is a label instead of a human being.”
He also gets involved with the violence of Kill Billstating that “it is choreographed like an Esther Williams swimming routine”, criticizing its scenes such as when the protagonist kills 70 kung fu masters in one scene.
He also criticizes the ending of Kill Bill, where he notes that “there’s not even an ending you can hang your hat on, it just tells us to stay tuned for more: more karate kicks and throws, more bird-sounding battle cries in falsetto”.
Although he points out that as the film progresses “it arouses a little more interest,” he points out that “it is still boring.”
Curiously, he states that within 10 years No one will remember Kill Bill anymore, while Mystic River will be burned into your memory.
I have not agreed with Stephen King over time because more than 20 years after the release of these films, although Mystic River is one of Clint Eastwood’s great productions, Kill Bill is considered Quentin Tarantino’s masterpiece.
