The role-playing game The Thaumaturge was actually supposed to be released in a week, but shortly before the release the developers pulled the ripcord again.
The Thaumaturge by Fool’s Theory has already undergone a major postponement and now the release planned for February 20th has been cancelled. And this despite the fact that the role-playing game is actually already finished. The postponement therefore has more tactical reasons, because apparently Fool’s Theory and 11 bit studios don’t necessarily want to get in the way of Skull & Bones, Banishers: Ghost of New Eden and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, which will be released within the next two weeks.
“With so much going on in February, we have decided to postpone the release of Thaumaturge until March 4, 2024. The game is ready, but we want to give it the space we think it deserves. See you in 1905 Warsaw and thank you for your patience,” said a statement on X/Twitter.
The Thaumaturge will appear just two weeks later and in somewhat calmer waters, the developers hope. It won’t get bad again until March 20th with Alone in the Dark, Dragon’s Dogma 2 and the PC version of Horizon: Forbidden West. So it could be a well-chosen gap.
Role-playing game fans should already have their eye on the title, as developer Fool’s Theory is made up of former developers from The Witcher, among others. So far, the studio only has one game on the list, Seven: The Days Long Gone, but is already working on the remake of The Witcher at the same time.
The Thaumaturge itself doesn’t sound unexciting. The game takes you as a thaumaturge to Warsaw in 1905, where, in the midst of Russian rule and the burgeoning revolution, you and your spiritual companions, the Salutors, experience an exciting story in which you have to deal with crime, espionage and mystical events. The whole thing is then staged in beautiful environments from an iso perspective and with tactical, turn-based battles.
