Threads has launched testing in the United States of a new feature – a list of the most discussed topics by other users, Meta✴ head Mark Zuckerberg announced on the platform. A list of Today’s topics will appear on the search page and in the For You feed.
The list is generated by an artificial intelligence algorithm, added Adam Mosseri, head of the Instagram social network that oversees the Threads platform. It takes into account how many users are discussing a particular topic and how many people have interacted with posts related to that topic. Meta✴ also recently promised to add controls to limit the presence of political content in recommendations.
The company has a department of content specialists that ensures that topics recommended by Threads do not violate community guidelines, are not duplicated or are not misleading to users, Mosseri said. Political content will also appear on the list, and users will be able to report topics that violate the platform’s rules.
Today’s Topics will help grow the microblogging service by making it easier to discover new posts and users on Threads, something the platform has been lacking since its launch. For now, it is being tested only in the United States, but in the foreseeable future it will become available to users from other countries – after it is properly “configured,” Mark Zuckerberg promised.
