Released last August, Immortals of Aveum did not hit sales targets and in November Ascendant Studios fired half of its employees to limit losses and reduce costs. But how much did the development of Immortals of Aveum really cost?
A former developer of the game, who remained anonymous, revealed on the pages of IGN that Immortals of Aveum it would have had a budget of around 125 million. Of these, 85 million were put on the plate by Ascendant Studios for development and production while the publisher Electronic Arts contributed with 40 million dollars used for distribution and marketing expenses.
Unfortunately the game did not achieve the desired success, either due to the wrong launch period or perhaps because being a new IP it would have needed more publicity. The former employee of the studio, however, speaks of a project that was far too ambitious to be the first game of a newborn independent team: Ascendant wanted to use Unreal Engine 5 for its first creation and this increased the costs, but according to anonymous source, even launching a single player FPS in the current market has not proven to be a winning choice.
The hope is that Immortals of Aveum can arrive on Game Pass and PlayStation Plus, making itself more known to the general public.
