Director of two parts “Dunes” Denis Villeneuve said that he does not plan to release any director’s versions of films with previously deleted scenes.
According to him, when a scene disappears from the tape, it “dies.” The author noted that deleting different episodes is very difficult for him, but he considers it a necessary process:
Sometimes I’ll cut shots and say, “I can’t believe I’m cutting this out.” I’m like a samurai who commits hara-kiri. It’s hard so I can’t go back [к материалу] and try to create Frankenstein’s monster from the parts that he himself destroyed. When something dies, it is forever – and there is a reason for it. Yes, it’s very painful, but that’s my job. The film is more important than anything else. It seems to me that I am very strict during the editing period. I don’t think about my ego, but about the film.
Villeneuve added that the timing of the film for him is dictated by the story itself – he does not have any clear framework in this regard. He recalled that during his career he created films whose duration could be as long as 75 minutes.
The running time of the second Dune, however, is 2 hours and 45 minutes.
The plot of the second “Dune” will continue the story of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet), who, together with Chani (Zendaya) and the Fremen people from the planet Arrakis, will oppose the forces of the Harkonnen house, guilty of murdering the hero’s father. Huge sandworms will also appear on the screen again.
The premiere of the film will take place on March 1 – Villeneuve had previously noted that he would like to direct a third film based on the novel “Messiah of Dune”but this will be his “last word” in the series.
So far there has been no official announcement about the development of a third film, but the sequel is already predicted to be a success at the box office.
