German car battery maker Varta AG said a cyber attack on Monday knocked five of its production facilities offline.
The company released an official statement revealing details about the attack.
“Last night, February 12, 2024, VARTA Group was the target of a cyber attack on parts of its IT systems. This affects five production facilities and the administration,” the company announced.
The battery maker said its IT systems and production facilities were temporarily “off the internet” and “proactively shut down for security reasons.”
“In accordance with the contingency plan for such situations, the necessary precautionary measures were taken immediately,” the company announced.
The company said the extent of the damage was still being determined, but that “the utmost care is being taken to ensure data integrity.”
A working group composed of cyber-security experts and data forensics experts was immediately formed, which should ensure normal work as soon as possible, as well as remediation of the damage caused by the attack.
