The Respawn studio released on February 13, along with the start of the new season, an update for the popular “Battle Royale” Apex Legends, which adds a 120 FPS mode on new generation consoles. You can now play at higher frame rates on Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and Playstation 5 with an eligible TV or monitor. The first tests of Apex Legends running at 120 FPS on Xbox consoles have appeared.
On Xbox Series X, Apex Legends runs at a fairly consistent 120 FPS at around 1440p. There are minor drops of 1-2 frames, which is not critical for the overall perception of gameplay. The tester points out that shadows, lighting and textures still look good, although many players are unhappy with the 120 FPS mode on the Xbox Series X, noting a lot of blur, especially in the distance.
On Xbox Series S, at 120 FPS mode, Apex Legends offers resolutions ranging from 720p to 900p. The drops in frame rate are more serious than on the Xbox Series X. The version for Series S can drop to 100 frames per second, and in the main gameplay 120 FPS is practically not consistently supported, there is always a drop of 2-5 frames. The Xbox Series S version is also criticized by players for severe blurring and reduced graphics levels.
