Sony has confirmed that PlayStation won’t launch video games for PS5 belonging to his most important series at least until March 31, 2025, i.e. for the entire next fiscal year which will begin on April 1, 2024. The feared chasm of releases by PlayStation Studios was therefore not a mistake, but a far-sighted prediction.
The announcement was made during the financial reporting for the third fiscal quarter of the current fiscal year, which ends March 31, 2024.
A gray year
Hiroki Totokipresident, chief operating officer and chief financial officer of the Sony Group, said: “When it comes to first-party software, we aim to continue to focus on producing high-quality games and developing live service games. But while they are currently While major projects are in development, we do not plan to release any new titles in existing series for the next fiscal year, such as God of War Ragnarok and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.”
So not only will there be no big launches from the PlayStation Studios, but the live service policy continues, despite some voices wanting the opposite. Totoki was very clear on this point, also announcing lower first party software sales for the 2024/2025 fiscal year caused precisely by the lack of releases.
This does not mean that some minor titles could be released, but that remains to be seen.
