We already know that human creativity knows no boundaries, but we still continue to be surprised. According to Business Insider, the new trend for those who telework has been revealed: reproducing other people’s Zoom meetings, so that no one at home can disturb them.
It sounds bizarre and one could even argue that it is. However, in 2020 and 2021, software companies such as GitLab and the City of Santa Fé will have made some work calls available on YouTube. If this was the ultimate goal? Certainly not, however someone will have remembered: “it would be a good idea to put this out so no one bothers me”!
Strategy used to have time alone, without interruptions

This is an idea that is both far-fetched and creative, but apparently, it is put into practice by several people. Among the various comments that we can find on GitLab videos, there is a user who mentions that he uses the video whenever he needs to be at peace, a strategy that “gives him a good 2 hours of alone time when necessary” (via Business Insider).
The funniest thing about all this is that it’s not just one or two people doing this. There are several testimonials similar to the previous user. To give you an idea, one of GitLab’s videos, published in 2021, already has 290 thousand reproductions, which is an abysmal number, when we think about a mere work meeting.
Between laughter and personal stories, the community of GitLab followers on YouTube realized that, after all, they were not the only ones using this strategy. The idea in question really helps those who work from home, but be careful: and not only! At the height of the covid-19 pandemic, even students who wanted to “skip” classes used similar videos, so their parents thought they were learning.
To be more credible, some people pause and pretend to speak at the meeting.
Still, there are those who can go further. To make it appear that you are also participating in the meetings, sometimes the video is paused, making you simulate that you are taking part in the meeting.
It’s certainly funny for those who hear the story for the first time, but one thing is certain: apparently, the plan is efficient. After all, it’s not always easy to have peace when you’re teleworking.
