February 14, 2024 at 3:20 p.m. – Some WoW players are currently asking themselves why the WoW token can no longer be converted into Battle.net credit. For all the speculation, there is a simple answer to the problem.
When changing the ID in WoW: Dragonflight on February 14, 2024, EU players were surprised to find that they can no longer exchange the WoW token for Battle.net credit. US players are said to be unaffected by this change, which raised questions in the community as to whether this was a simple error in the EU system or whether new changes might have been implemented unannounced.
At the beginning of 2024, for example, there was a currency change for some European countries and Argentina. In Argentina, players have had to pay in dollars instead of pesos for a few weeks now, which has made purchasing a monthly WoW subscription an absolute luxury for the majority of the population. Websites like WoWHead speculated whether the current case for European players could be a change in EU law. In reality, it’s just a bug.

At the same time (February 14, 2024), the European Council tightened the laws against money laundering. The focus of this tightening of laws against money laundering in the EU is primarily on crypto currencies, but also “virtual currencies”.
WoW players were concerned that they would no longer be able to use the WoW brand to purchase WoW add-ons, etc., as the item’s tooltip had also changed. However, as you can read in the tweet from Blizzard Support above, a solution is already being worked on. Until then, support recommends that you should not attempt to exchange the WoW token for Bnet credit.
By the way, due to the currency changes for the WoW brand, the game time token will mean that more players will be excluded from the upcoming expansion The War Within. In Argentina, players have to pay a large portion of their monthly salary for a monthly subscription and Russian players are completely banned from The War Within due to sanctions. In the case of The War Within, Russians can only hope for possible loopholes.
