There is just one month left until one of the most anticipated films of the year is released in theaters around the world, Dune: Part 2. After a very well structured first film, the sequel to the adaptation of Frank Herbert’s work aims to be a true technical and narrative tour de force.
However, if you’re hoping for more bonus content in an extended version, we have some bad news. Through an interview with Collider, the director of the saga, Denis Villeneuve, confirmed that there will not be any extended version of these films because he does not need them (although it pains him to eliminate parts).
“Sometimes I take out shots and say, ‘I can’t believe I’m taking this out.’ I feel like a samurai ripping my guts open. It’s painful, so I can’t go back and create a Frankenstein and try to reanimate things I’ve killed. It’s too much.” painful. When it’s dead, it’s dead for a reason. But yes, it’s a painful project, but it’s my job. The film prevails. I’m very, I think, stern in the editing room. I don’t think about my ego, I think about the movie”.
The Canadian director went on to explain that no one at Warner had put limits on him when it came to lengthening the footage, and that the running times of his films are not dictated by anything other than what he thinks they should have, rather than having to follow certain criteria or limitations imposed by the production company.
Dune: Part 2 It will be a direct sequel to the first film released in 2021 and will take Timothee Chalamet on a new adventure in the lands of Arrakis. Although it was scheduled to be released at the end of 2023, the actors’ strike caused the film to be delayed for several months, specifically until March 1, 2024, which is when it will hit theaters around the world.
