There’s still no word on a full-fledged sequel.
Studio ZA/UM, known for the adventure game Disco Elysium, may fire some of its employees, writes the gaming editors of Sports Illustrated, citing a letter from studio head Ilmar Kompus and its own sources.
According to the publication, the studio may lay off about 24 employees, which is about a quarter of the ZA/UM staff. A final decision on layoffs has not yet been made.
At the same time, the publication claims, it became known about the cancellation of the add-on for Disco Elysium, known under the code name X7. The project was supposedly a standalone addition, that is, the game itself was not required to complete it.
It is stated that there was a year or two left before the release of the add-on. ZA/UM President Ed Tomaszewski allegedly called the expansion a project requiring more time and effort than Disco Elysium itself.
Layoffs allegedly could affect both the X7 team and developers working on other studio projects. According to the publication, we are talking about screenwriters, artists, animators, programmers and back office employees.
According to the publication, X7 is the third studio project that has been canceled recently. Previously, ZA/UM allegedly closed a full-fledged sequel to Disco Elysium and a game in a new universe. Perhaps the studio has another project in the works in the world of Disco Elysium.
