Adobe for everyone
No matter whether image editing, web design or video editing: Adobe’s software suite offers useful software that even home users can work with professionally. However, the individual programs have different hardware requirements. That’s why we would like to provide a guide in 2024 that presents the appropriate components for the respective area of application. At the end of the article you will find example computers that offer a good compromise between performance and use. Of course, in addition to the Adobe Cloud, there are well-known alternatives for the individual products. Davinci Resolve or Final Cut Pro from Apple are particularly popular counterparts in video production. These have roughly the same performance requirements as the Adobe suite. To a certain extent, the following report can also be used for alternative software. In addition to the local installation, Adobe also offers a cloud solution that relocates the calculations to its own servers. In theory, this means expensive hardware solutions can be saved. In practice, however, the programs within the online solution lack important features, which throws them out of the running for professional applications.
Photoshop’s claims
To use basic functions in Photoshop, you don’t need powerful hardware. Only a 2 GHz multi-core with 64-bit support is officially specified for the processor. However, the performance benefits from a powerful CPU. For example, effects are executed faster and image exports also take less time. The RAM should be at least 8 GiB, 16 GiB is recommended. However, if you work in high resolutions with several tools at the same time, the RAM can quickly reach its capacity limits. We therefore recommend that demanding users opt for 32 GiB. In general, you should no longer do without an SSD. Even basic Windows features such as system booting are much faster. In 2024, an HDD should only serve as a data grab. Whether you use an NVME or SATA SSD is up to you. Although the graphics card only plays a minor role in Photoshop, it also has minimum requirements. It should have 1.5 GiB of memory and be DirectX 12 compatible. A graphics memory of at least 4 GiB is recommended for using UHD displays. Adobe also points out that GPUs older than 7 years are no longer supported.
