It’s hard to gauge the current status of the upcoming Silent Hill 2 remake, which is being developed by Bloober Team and published by Konami and is rumored to be released this year. At Sony’s State of Play showcase, long-suffering fans were shown a battle trailer that no longer seemed to fit with the series’ spiritual roots. Bloober Team sees it the same way and is now accusing Konami. Eurogamer Poland picked up an interview with Bloober’s studio boss Piotr Babieno and inweststorzy.tv, translated by Eurogamer UK, in which he said that marketing is Konami’s responsibility. He agreed that the combat trailer failed to “capture the spirit of the game.”
Babieno continued, claiming that the combat trailer doesn’t do the final game justice: “It’s not the spirit of what was before, or what we’re creating now.” He explained that the studio is working on “that romantic vision of a game that came out 22 years ago” and that when players see live gameplay and “a real game” they “will judge the game completely differently.” Bloober Team now feels comfortable enough , to regularly attack Konami and recently criticized the publisher on Twitter for the lack of communication regarding the game. It’s never a good sign when the conversation devolves into a public banter between companies, but we’ll have to wait for the finished product to judge for ourselves.
