After we learned yesterday that no new major titles from existing franchises will be released for PS5 in the next fiscal year (i.e. until March 31, 2025), a follow-up followed today. Sony announced that PC ports of first-party titles were an important element in an aggressive growth plan.
Sony President and PlayStation Chairman Hiroki Totoki explained in this context that the manufacturing costs of PlayStation hardware could only be reduced to a very limited extent and that this also depended on external factors. However, with a strong first-party portfolio on the PC, it is easier to increase profits.
This would be a departure from the tactics in the past, where only a few first-party titles were released for the PC. It is also unclear whether anything will change in the current exclusivity period of at least one year. However, some titles, such as live service games, were already excluded from this.
