At Sony’s most recent investor meeting, where the Japanese giant shared some data about the PS5, we also had the opportunity to hear some extremely interesting things about the PlayStation gaming ecosystem.
Sony wants to invest even more in PlayStation games for the PC! More games, and coming sooner!
Therefore, Sony, internally, is going through a phase of renewal, especially on the PlayStation side. With several executives giving way to others, younger, with a different type of mentality.
Therefore, the medium-long term strategy may be about to change, with some impact on the player, especially for the most dedicated player who lives the PlayStation world the most. In fact, it’s something very similar to what could be about to happen on the Xbox side of things… Sony wants to release more games, sooner, on other platforms!
Yes, it’s true that the vast majority of the most critical games in the PlayStation ecosystem are already coming to PC. However, it is almost always “late”, or in the opinion of some experts, too late to have a serious impact on the company’s accounts.
This is especially true for games less popular than God of War or The Last of Us, which will obviously always sell, whether they arrive 1 or 2 later “late”.
Well, very briefly, it seems that Sony is studying a situation in which games arrive on several platforms at the same time, or at least, this waiting time becomes much shorter (2~3 months).
Why?
Well, consoles no longer mean what they did a few years ago. In fact, in the very near future, the console as we know it may even cease to exist. Therefore, if Sony wants to increase its margins, it has to adapt to a whole new reality.
In short, can you imagine a God of War coming out for PC and PS5 on the same day? It would be interesting to say the least!
