Not long ago, the director of the remake “Houses by the Road” announced a boycott of the film due to its release on Amazon – but it turned out that the authors were offered to release a new product in cinema.
Initially, the problem arose due to the fact that the film was developed with a studio MGM, which was later bought by Amazon. Then the creators of the film were given a choice – they could produce the film for $60 million with a theatrical release, or spend $85 million on it, but then it would only be released on a streaming service.
As the portal source put it: Variety:
All of them [авторы] chose money.
At the same time, one of the producers of the film continued to advocate for the release of the film in cinemas even after the previous decision was made – but his services were eventually refused.
The release of the new product on Amazon was reported back in 2022, so director Doug Liman’s decision to boycott seemed strange to many. Now it has raised even more questions among netizens (given the new information).
One of the creators of the film anonymously noted that the director was generally disrespectful towards the rest of the team, because many people worked on the film.
At the same time, in the same article, Variety notes that expectations from the film are quite positive – it could become one of Amazon’s big hits this year.
The plot of the film tells about a former UFC athlete who starts working as a bouncer in one of the bars. However, a local businessman wants to build a resort on the site of the establishment, so the hero will have to deal not only with unwanted clients, but also with a new problem.
The main role in the film is played by Jake Gyllenhaal, and the part of one of the villains is played by professional fighter Conor McGregor. Darren Barnett, Jessica Williams and Travis will also appear in the film.
The film’s premiere is scheduled for March 21.
