The hopes of August 2023 have not been fulfilled. At that time there was “movement” on the Tomb Raider website and hopes were high that information would finally continue after the early announcement of a next-gen Tomb Raider with Unreal Engine 5. The project was originally announced in April 2022. Almost two years later, there is little more than what was said back then. But there are new hopes.
The “new” Lara shows herself
Anyone who is on the Tomb Raider website not only gets information about the newly launched remaster project for Tomb Raider 1-3, but also how to register for the “Society of Raiders”. But what does it mean? The description says:
“The society of raiders is looking for new members! The world of Tomb Raider is filled with colorful characters searching for powerful secrets. Some are in it for the glory, others to preserve history – still others search for lost and forgotten knowledge. Tomb Raiders who share similar interests look out for each other in the most dangerous corners of the world. When conflict is unavoidable, they strive to outdo each other in contests of wit and will. But they all have something in common – a thirst for adventure!
As Crystal Dynamics continues to deliver exciting new Tomb Raiding experiences, we would like to invite our fans to join the ranks of Raider Society. Join the Society of Raiders at TombRaider.com to be the first to hear the latest news and announcements about Lara Croft’s upcoming adventures in the world of Tomb Raider. Society members get instant access to wallpapers, the Tomb Raider newsletter and more. If you sign up before March 14, 2024, you will receive the Atlantean Scion Avatar in early access.”
Anyone who registers there will see (at least) one new artwork with the new Lara Croft. It’s probably “just” a wallpaper, but that’s better than nothing and much more than you’ve seen before. The reference to March 14th could also be important. One can assume that something exciting will happen afterwards in the Tomb Raider and Lara Croft environment. Since Embracer took over Crystal Dynamics, the project has been quite quiet overall – at the parent company Embracer, however, things have been very uncomfortable with many layoffs and project cancellations.
