Edition Variety reports that during a recent appearance at the British Film Institute, acclaimed director Christopher Nolan shared his plans for a possible future project. In particular, the director answered a question from one of the listeners regarding whether he was considering the possibility of creating a horror film.
“Even Oppenheimer has elements of horror in a certain sense. Horror is very attractive to me because it depends on cinematic techniques – it’s about a visceral reaction to a certain moment. Someday I would like to make a horror film. But for good horror you need a really exceptional idea and there are very few of them – so for now I don’t have a suitable story for film adaptation.
This is a very interesting genre from a cinematic point of view – one of the few in which studios make a lot of dark and abstract films. There are many features for such films, but in Hollywood they try not to use them, but this is exactly the type of film where this is acceptable.” – Christopher Nolan answered
Thus, the director is ready to take on horror, but only if he has a good story for his upcoming film. However, he once said the same thing about biographical films – until he read a book about Robert Oppenheimer given to him by Cillian Murphy. It is possible that Christopher Nolan will still be able to find a suitable idea for a film in such an atypical genre.
