There are two films in the Avatar saga that have already been released and James Cameron remains immersed in the production of more installments for a franchise that seeks to expand. It will be the December 19, 2025 when we can go to the movie theaters to enjoy a new installment that, luckily, will not keep us glued to the seat for an eternity.
And some information suggested that the first cut with all the film’s material would last no less than nine hours, which for the production in one of the longest ever made. Although the rumor arose several months ago, it was now, during the Saturn Awards, when the filmmaker wanted to deny such an extreme.
“There is no nine-hour first montage [de Avatar 3]… I’d put a shotgun in my mouth if I ever did a nine-hour first cut. No, what I said was nine hours of material, that is, Avatar 3, Avatar 4 and Avatar 5; that’s, you know, three hours per movie. Somehow that turned into nine hours, can you imagine?”
Cameron wanted to specify that is the union of the three next Avatar films which makes it possible to talk about those famous nine hours. Of course, that amount of time, around three hours per tape, allows the figures to fit together with much more sense. Furthermore, it would be almost impossible to imagine a mass release with such an exaggerated duration that it would probably cause reluctance among the public.
All in all, the director has already worked the series well up to the fifth installment and ideas do not stop sprouting in his mind for a sixth and seventh film. However, he himself recognizes that the passage of time is crucial and that, with 69 years behind him, he will hardly be able to experience the premiere of each of them.
