Google has announced an initiative that will see the company launch several free AI-powered tools designed to improve online safety. The decision to implement a new initiative was made due to the fact that advanced technologies, including those related to neural networks, are often used not only to protect against cybercriminals, but also to commit illegal actions.
Among other things, Google intends to introduce a new open source product that is built on neural networks and uses file type identification to detect malicious software. This tool is already being used to improve security in Gmail and Google Drive and will be available for free.
As part of the Munich Cybersecurity Conference taking place this week in Germany, Google will also publish a white paper detailing how the IT giant is using artificial intelligence to support cybersecurity. In addition, the document calls for research into AI and the development of measures to ensure autonomous cyber defense.
At the same time, Google announced additional investments in research grants and partnerships to advance cybersecurity initiatives using AI technologies. Since hackers are already using AI-based algorithms to carry out cyberattacks, Google believes it needs to step up efforts to develop tools to counter attackers.
