Almost five years after the broadcast of the last episode of Game of Thrones, David Benioff and DB Weiss are back at the helm of a new adaptation, this time produced by Netflix. According to them, fans of Liu Cixin’s trilogy have nothing to worry about, since they have pulled out all the stops to honor this adaptation!

An ending that remains in memory (but not for the right reasons)
Almost 5 years later, we’re still complaining about it. We obviously want to talk about the end of Game Of Thrones, the phenomenon series that kept its viewers in suspense until its last season, where all the narrative development was shattered in just 6 episodes. Even if the adaptation of Game of Thrones George R. R. Martin had hit the ground running in April 2011 and had been able to keep a good pace for a few years, the creative liberties taken by David Benioff et D. B. Weiss got the better of the continuity of Game of Thrones and one of the most iconic characters of our generation.
Even though Game of Thrones was supposed to be based on only one book per season, the adaptation began to move away from Game of Thrones as early as the fourth season, where elements taken from the fifth book were added, which turned the narrative of the following seasons upside down. But it wasn’t until the sixth season that the problems really started, since the next novel of George R. R. Martin had (and still has) not seen the light of day. The events of the last three seasons were therefore partly invented by the creators and screenwriters, which is very evident in the rhythm of the episodes, which have become very messy, but also in the behavior of the characters – and particularly that of Daenerys Targaryen.
A little hope for a successful adaptation
A few years and a few projects later, David Benioff et D. B. Weiss are back with a science fiction series, The Three-Body Problem, this time alongside Netflix, the trailer of which you can find at the header of this article. Naturally, there is some apprehension among fans of the eponymous book on which this series is based, and the creators are aware of this. According to Benioff et Weiss, they felt the same “terror” when embarking on this project as when they encountered Game of Thrones. However, they hope to be able to honor the Three-Body Problem, and especially its ending.
Fortunately, David Benioff et D. B. Weiss seem to have learned from their mistakes, since this time they are tackling a trilogy whose last volume was published in 2010. They therefore have every chance on their side to offer a faithful adaptation and, hopefully, at the height of the novels of Liu Cixin. The first season will focus on the first book and will join the Netflix catalog on March 21. It takes place during the Cultural Revolution in China, where an astrophysicist named Ye Wenjie (played by Zine Tseng et Rosalind Chao) joins the research team of a hidden military base, where she will discover secrets that will have serious repercussions on the future.
