In December 2024, Microsoft promises to show new gaming hardware -* we are talking about both consoles and controllers. Gaming business leader Phil Spencer shared his plans when discussing the future (multi-platform) strategy of Xbox, which involves the release of some of the exclusives of the Xbox ecosystem on PS5 and Nintendo Switch.
Xbox hardware will also continue to be a flagship experience for players and for game developers to launch games on with a robust and innovative multi-year hardware roadmap, including more console and controller options for you this holiday.

In an Xbox podcast on February 15, game division president Sarah Bond assured that the next Xbox is already in development and should make the biggest technological leap between console generations.
“What we’re really focused on is delivering the biggest technological leap you’ve ever seen between console generations, making Xbox a better experience for players and a better experience for creators and the games they create.”

Microsoft gaming business leader Phil Spencer went even further in an interview with The Verge – and directly hinted that the Xbox development team is considering creating various hardware. It is expected that Microsoft will introduce, in particular, a portable Xbox in the style of Steam Deck and its competitors.
“I’m incredibly proud of the development team – both this year’s results and the developments for the future. We’re really thinking about creating hardware that gamers will buy because of the unique aspects of the hardware. This is a release of some of the creative potential of our development team, and I’m really looking forward to sharing it all. We see many opportunities in different types of devices, and will share details of future hardware plans as soon as we are ready.”

Rumors about an Xbox portable console have been circulating online for a while now, with Spencer liking posts on X/Twitter that mention the possibility of a potential Xbox Portable.
“I’m a big fan of portable devices, but I don’t have anything to announce,” Spencer admitted to The Verge. At the same time, he admitted that Windows is now one of the weakest points of portable gaming PCs such as ROG or Lenovo [Legion Go]. Currently, the OS is not well optimized for such devices, but developers are actively working on improving various aspects to provide a better experience.
It remains to mention the 2TB cylindrical Xbox Series X without a disc drive and the new controller, which will most likely come out before the next-gen Xbox and a potential portable Xbox Portable. “We have a robust and innovative multi-year hardware roadmap that includes more console and controller options by Christmas (December 2024),” Microsoft wrote in a blog post. “Xbox players will know that the games we create for them take full advantage of our hardware and services.”
